A chair inspired by the work of Motomi Kawakami.

This project is my take on a simple and sophisticated dining chair. I intend to construct the chair at my university after Covid-19, when the fab shop reopens.


Inspiration: Motomi Kawakami

Motomi Kawakami is known for is his sophisticated simplicity and specializes in product, interior, space and environmental design. Motomi often uses natural materials in his furniture, especially wood.

Model Making.

I narrowed down my direction to three concepts and decided to follow Motomi Kawakimi’s beloved integrated back legs in the backrest. The three models below are 1/8” scale, the rest of the models are full scale.
